What is Hypnosis?

How it Works

Have you ever daydreamed? Have you ever suddenly thought of solutions to issues when you were involved in some unrelated activity like exercise, or cooking or raking leaves? Have you ever taken a deep breath, felt calmer, and plunged into something you were frightened to do then realized you did it so easily?

These are occasions of accessing the unconscious mind, also known as being in a slight "trance". Hypnosis helps you break down the "wall" of doubt, allowing access to the highly efficient, subconscious structures of your brain that can serve you in many different problem areas. If your conscious mind is the size of a dime, then your unconscious is the size of a beachball! By accessing the unconscious mind, the guided techniques of hypnosis can give you access to more of your own abilities.

About our Sessions

Session are extremely comfortable, relaxing and goal directed. You will first be given detailed information to listen to before your session begins. We will then discuss your current issues in detail and together set goals and expectations. You will be sitting up in a comfortable recliner enjoying soft music through headphones, if you wish, while I then instruct you through the process that will allow you to formulate the desired adaptive responses and reactions to problems and situations in your life.

You are always in control of the session. In fact, during hypnosis you are more in control of your feelings, thoughts and emotions than at any other time. Some people have notions of stage hypnosis when volunteers are responding uncharacteristically to comical situations. In a clinical setting, hypnosis does not work that way as we address only the issues identified by you with techniques that are controlled by you.
